The Third Testament

You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus (Luke 1:31), for he will save his people from their sins (Matt. 1:21).

"Mrs. Palin needs to be reminded that Jesus Christ was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor."

Don’t you like it when desperate people begin to use Jesus and the bible when it is fourth and one?  And don’t you just love it when these same people who cry out that the need to keep church and state separate use religion for their convenience when it suits them?

I read somewhere in by bible, ahhhhh, let’s see, oh there it is, where in the last days, many false prophets will come claiming to be Jesus (Matt. 24:23-24).  It is very interesting how people want to align themselves with Jesus in terms of what He stood for, but these same people do not want anything to do with Jesus in terms of what He wanted most – holiness.

Now in all fairness to the democratic presidential nominee, Obama is not the one who is claiming to be Jesus the community organizer.  It’s some of those who are his supporters. They want to give the title “community organizer” a boost, so they bring Jesus into the picture. Once they are through with Jesus, they will toss Him out.

So what really was Jesus?  Well, the text above tells us:  Jesus was the “Savior of the world” for He came “to save His people from their sin.”

Now let’s see if I got this straight. Bare with me because I am a slow learner. If Jesus came to save people from their sins, and His job was a “community organizer,” then the way people are saved from their sins is helped by “community organization.” In other words, salvation is from social ills, through political and governmental programs, and through elevation from poverty to economic rank. So then, the great need of the average person is not to receive Jesus as his or her Savior, but to receive Jesus as His or her political organizer.

All this time I’ve been preaching the wrong message.  I’ve been telling folks that they (like me) are sinners and they need to turn from their sins and receive Jesus as their Savior.  But now all I need to do is to tell folks to turn from their false religious notions about Jesus and receive Him as their community organizer.  It is through social networking, social programs, and social revamping that we can truly be saved.  And those who are involved as “community organizers” are the true preachers of the kingdom, and those who are proclaiming “Jesus as Savior” message are not with the present times.

But I got one question:  What did Jesus ever organize as a community organizer?  Let’s see, he chose twelve disciples (Matt. 10).  He also chose seventy others to preach the gospel (Luke 10). Ahhh, what else?  Ahhhh, I don’t know.  Did He get people to vote? No.  Did He organize any social programs? No. Did He rally the people to support their government? No.  Well, what did He organize as a community organizer?

We’ll He did organize five thousand people in such a way so as to feed them all (Matt. 14). He also organized four thousand people in such a way as to feed them (Matt. 15). Oh, maybe that’s what a community organizer is all about – “giving out free food to a large group of people from a very small source!”  But here’s my concern:  Whatever Jesus organized did not last.

For example, let’s take the feeding of the five and the four thousand mentioned above.  Have you ever seen something like that duplicated?  Do you know of any government programs that spend so little and feed so much?

You see, all I am saying here is if Jesus was a “community organizer,” then He was a poor example of one, because I cannot find one thing that He organized that made a lasting difference.

Perhaps, I better think twice about the belief that Jesus was about community organizing, and stick with the facts that He was all about personal transformation. For Jesus, the way to capture a community was to capture the people first, whereas today, we’re told that the way to capture people is through community organizing.
You want to see a community organized for success, bring people to Jesus.  Transformed people will greatly affect the community, not through community organizing in order to transforms people.

I think I am going to stick with preaching Jesus as the Savior and not as a community organizer.  I have read about and personally seen scores of people saved from their sins as a result of Jesus being the Savior of the world, but I have not read about or seen anyone helped in any way from Jesus being a community organizer.

Maybe it's because for all these years, I’ve been reading a bible that only has “two testaments.”  I need to find that one some others are reading that has “three testaments,” you know, the one that teaches Christ as the community organizer.
